How to use GIFs in your campaign

We know GIFs as those little animated images that bring a smile to your face on social media. But did you know they are a secret weapon for your Constant Contact campaigns?

That's right! You can upload and insert a GIF just as easily as a regular photo. Adding a GIF can instantly liven up a static email and let your brand's personality shine.

Before you start animating, here are the updated "pro tips" for 2026:

💡 Pro Tips for GIF Success

  • Bigger is Better (Sort of): You can now upload GIFs up to 20MB! While we increased the limit to allow for sharper quality, remember that smaller files (under 1MB) still load the fastest for your mobile readers.

  • The 600px Rule: Most email templates are 600 pixels wide. If your GIF is wider than 1200px, our system will automatically compress it, which can sometimes make the animation look a little "fuzzy." Try to size it perfectly before uploading.

  • The Canva Shortcut: Don't have a GIF on hand? Use our Canva integration. You can create a custom animation in Canva and send it straight to your email draft in two clicks.

  • Think of the "First Frame": While nearly all modern email clients support GIFs, a few older versions of Outlook might only show the first frame. Make sure your very first frame looks great and conveys your message!

Creative Ways to Use GIFs

  • Display a Reaction: Are you celebrating a business milestone or a big sale? Show your readers how excited you are! A "high-five" or "confetti" GIF tells a story better than text ever could.

  • Support Your Message: If you’re a nonprofit, show a quick 3-second loop of the animals or community you're helping. It creates an immediate emotional connection.

  • Show Personality: Use a GIF for a fun "hello" at the start of your newsletter or a "wave goodbye" in the footer. It makes your brand feel human and approachable.
