๐Ÿคš๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ›‘ How I Use the Update Profile Page to Cut Down on Unsubscribes

If you are watching unsubscribes roll in and wishing you could keep some of those people, there is one setting in Constant Contact that does a lot of quiet work for you. It is the Update Profile page, and most account owners set it up once, years ago, and never look at it again.

Here's your moment to revisit that!

Click on your Profile drop-down in the upper right of your Constant Contact dashboard (look for your logo)

  • Settings > Advanced Settings

  • Subscriber emails & pages > click on Manage

  • Profile page > Edit

Open your profile page and you can swap in your logo and adjust the colors so it matches your branding. That alone makes the page feel like part of your business instead of a dead end.

The real win is what you put on the page. The Areas of Interest section is where I spend the most time. Those are the lists your subscribers get to choose from, so name them the way a subscriber would think about them, not the way you filed them internally. "Send me the weekly St Croix music and events" gets checked. "Newsletter list 3" does not. I also go through and uncheck the old lists I no longer want people landing on, so the page stays clean and current.

Right next to the profile page is the Unsubscribe page. Once your profile page is built, someone who clicks unsubscribe will see those same list choices before they go. A lot of people do not actually want to leave you. They just want fewer emails about things that are not relevant to them. Giving them the option to stay on one or two lists instead of walking away completely is the difference between losing a contact and keeping one.

The bigger point behind all of it: sending every email to everybody is what creates unsubscribes in the first place. When subscribers sort themselves, your sends get more relevant, your open rates go up, and your list stays healthier.

I recorded a quick walkthrough of the whole setup, start to finish, in under five minutes:

Have you updated your profile page lately? I would love to know what custom fields other people are using to segment their lists. Let me know how you use this in the comments below!
