Using Umbraco CMS content to populate an email template

My company is using Umbraco a .NET CMS. We generate our email content from our CMS to send out emails. Is there a way using your api to integrate the two so that when we generate our email content, it would automatically populate within a template in Constant Contact?

Re: Using Umbraco CMS content to populate an email template

Hi,

I'm afraid the simple answer here is no because it sounds like you'd like to use one of our templates.  The API doesn't have access to Constant Contact's templates.  Sorry for the limitation.

That being said, you can create (and send) and email through our API if you use your own html code for your email.  You could create a solution on your side that takes your content and places it inside html code (that you re-use on your side).  Then you can use our API to create an email with your entire html code.

Re: Using Umbraco CMS content to populate an email template

If we wish to create a template of our own based off of your template, if I am hearing you correctly then we could generate our html code to paste inside a blank email? Am I understanding correctly.? We are basically doing that now but find it to be tedious and labor intensive as it seems we have to constantly tweak the email for optimum output. Why doesn't the API have access to your templates or a Master that we would create? I'm curious.

It sounds like you're pasting your html code into a blank template by logging into Constant Contact each time.  You could do the same thing using the API (so that you didn't have to login to Constant Contact each time to create the email).  Optimization would be the same process though.

Good question as to why you can't create a templated email through the API.  Basically, the functionality to get a template's entire code wasn't written into the API or into the UI.  It's a missing feature.  When you create an email in the UI, you can get to the html code for each block in an email, but the 'frame' or layout of the email is code that even we can't get to.
