Capturing an email address through the API

I have a client who has an online software product.  They would like to provide demo access to their online software by having users submit their email address to receive access.  

 

I have a couple of questions regarding this:

1) Can the API be used to capture that email address and save it to an existing contact list in my clients Constant Contact account?

2) Is it possible to automatically send emails to those contacts based on when they requested demo access.  For example, one day or one week after they request access, an email would be automatically sent to them.

Hi,

 

Yes, that is a straightforward use of our API.  In #1, that is quite possible.  You will probably want to set up a new list in the account for email addresses captured on the signup form.  For #2, it would be easiest to set up an autoresponder in the account (not through the API), set to go to the list the new contacts will be put into.  You select the number of days after entry the autoresponder(s) will go out to them.

Thanks for the reply.  We are working on making this happen now.  As I'm looking into the autoresponder solution, I see how we can have an autoresponder sent as early as 1 day after signup.  When the user initially signs up to receive demo access, we need to immediately send out the demo access instructions.  Since we are going through the API, is it possible to do this through Constant Contact, or should we develop that on our website as a separate email that goes out?  Would prefer to handle it all in Constant Contact for ease of managing things down the road, but not necessary if the system doesn't suppor this.

Hi Chris,

 

There isn't a way for the autoresponders to send out sooner than the day after signup; however, if you set the opt in source for the person through your integration as "ACTION_BY_CONTACT",  a welcome email will go out to them immediately through Constant Contact.  You can customize the welcome email.  Read more about how to customize the welcome email here.
