....and entering the contact twice means duplicate work. Each time I need to make a note about the contact I have to edit the second contact as well. If there is not a way to combine two email addresses for a contact then someone should create it. I'm certain I'm not the only user who has this problem?
Contacts want to receive email at 2 addresses but that means I have to enter the contact twice.

A unique contact is determined based on a unique email address. If you have two separate email addresses for the same person, then you have two contacts for that person.
