There isn't really a hard cap on this, it's generally more of a balance issue of images, text, and hyperlinks. Keep in mind that the larger an email is - amount of text, imagery, general length, etc. - the more likely it is to get cut off after a certain point, and require the reader to let the email program generate a webpage version of it.

To ensure your email's appearance is maintained, it's generally a best practice to include a View as Webpage link at the top of your emails. This way if an email program is blocking your images from downloading/displaying, is cutoff for length, or otherwise messes with the appearance of your email, your contacts have a quick and easy way to see it as it's supposed to be.

If you're anticipating sending an email with a lot of images, or wanting your contacts to view a significant amount of graphics, it may be more worthwhile to include a link to a cloud drive folder with the images, a site dedicated to image hosting and albums, a social page's image gallery, or to a website or PDF if you're trying to have a catalogue of products.
