Unsubscribed contacts are considered "inactive" and we do not bill you for them. We only bill for "active" contacts. Here's the difference:
Active contacts
Active contacts are contacts you can send email campaigns to, including:
Contacts who have an email address on file and who have given you permission to email them. This includes contacts who have both an email address and an SMS phone number on file.
Contacts who have unsubscribed but then resubscribed to your list through one of our sign-up tools or through the link in an email footer.
Contacts who have bounced, such as non-existent, undeliverable, or suspended contacts, but have not yet been removed from your account.
Inactive contacts
Inactive contacts are contacts you can't send email campaigns to, including:
Contacts for whom you don't have email addresses. This includes contacts that only have an SMS phone number on file (SMS-only contacts).
Contacts who haven't granted you permission to email them.
Contacts who have unsubscribed.
Contacts who were imported in the Unsubscribed Status.
Contacts who are in the Awaiting Confirmation status.
Contacts who are in the Temporary Hold status.
