I have two separate email contact lists. If I merge the initial contact list we created with one that is from our inline sign-up form, will that merge identify duplicate contacts and merge them as one? I would like to work off just one list of contacts.

When you merge lists, it makes a separate list from the merging ones. Unique email addresses are what denote unique contacts, so you wouldn't need to be worrying about dupes in your list.
