Time to Get Real About Business Continuity Plans

I had a health scare last month, and while ultimately I'm going to be fine, it was a wake-up call. I've been running my business solo since 2014 and loving it, but this situation made me realize I need to formalize a backup plan.

I've got some things in place (a list of active clients, that kind of thing), but it's all pretty loose. If I'm suddenly out for a week or more, I know my clients would be scrambling, and that's not fair to them or the reputation I've built.

We talk about systems and staying organized, but how many of us have actually documented what happens if WE'RE the ones who go offline?

I'm working on creating a real contingency plan that covers:

  • Client contact protocols and who can reach out on my behalf

  • Access to critical accounts and scheduled campaigns

  • A prioritized project list so someone knows what's urgent

  • Templates for emergency communications

I'm curious what you all have in place. Have you formalized anything? Is there a trusted colleague or family member who could step in? What am I missing that should be on my (and others') radar?

Let's help each other get this buttoned up.
