Most frequently asked questions from our 'How to Grow Your Email List in Constant Contact' webinar

Attended one of our recent 'How to Grow Your Email List in Constant Contact: Free Webinars.' Well if you missed any of it or need a quick refresher, here are some of the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) we received.

What is a permission-based email list?

A permission-based list means every contact on it has clearly agreed to receive emails from you such as by signing up via a simple website form, checking a box when buying something, exchanging business cards, or verbally asking to join. They expect to hear from you. Building your list this way is required by Constant Contact and protects you from spam complaints and legal issues.

Why can't I buy or rent an email list?

People on purchased lists never agreed to hear from you. When your message arrives, they are likely to delete it, mark it as spam, or report it, which hurts your ability to reach inboxes and can lead to account suspension. Using bought lists also violates Constant Contact's rules and anti-spam laws in countries. Leading to legal trouble.

What is a lead magnet (free incentive)? A lead magnet is a free offer or reward you give people in exchange for signing up, like a coupon code, a simple PDF guide, or exclusive tips. For example: "Sign up to get 10% off your first order" or "Subscribe for a free checklist." Offering a small incentive makes visitors much more likely to join your list.

What should I write on my signup form?

Keep it clear and simple: state what subscribers will receive and how often. For instance: "Join our monthly newsletter for helpful tips, store news, and special deals." Clear expectations make people feel comfortable subscribing.

How do I put a pop-up form on my website?

In Constant Contact, go to Channels β†’ Sign Up Forms β†’ Pop Up Form. Once you publish it, copy the code provided and paste it into your website settings. Step-by-step guides are available for popular website builders like WordPress, Wix, and Squarespace via our Knowledge Base.

What is exit-intent popup technology?

Exit intent senses when a visitor is about to close the page or leave your site and displays the pop-up form at that exact moment. It gives you one last chance to invite them to join your list before they go.

How do I share my signup page on social media?

Open your signup landing page in Constant Contact and click Share. You can share directly to Facebook or LinkedIn. For Instagram and TikTok, paste your landing page web link into your profile bio and direct your followers to click it.

How do I create a QR code for my signup form?

From your landing page settings, click Share β†’ Share QR Code. Download the image and print it on flyers, business cards, or signs so people can scan it with their phone camera to open your signup form.

Can I get an email alert when someone signs up?

Yes! In your form settings, turn on email notifications and enter your email address to get notified whenever a new subscriber joins.

What is Text to Join and how does it work?

Text to Join lets people subscribe by texting a specific keyword to a phone number. Go to Channels β†’ Sign Up Forms β†’ Text to Join to turn it on, then place the text instructions on signs, business cards, or event displays. (This feature requires SMS Marketing access).

How do I collect email signups during event registration?

When setting up an event in Constant Contact, enable the option that lets attendees check a box to receive future marketing emails from you.

What is a Facebook Lead Ad?

A Facebook Lead Ad lets Facebook users sign up for your email list with a quick tap without leaving Facebook. You can easily set this up under Channels β†’ Sign Up Forms β†’ Facebook Lead Ad.

What should I do right after someone signs up?

Send an automated welcome email immediately. Thank them for joining, send any promo code or download promised, and introduce your business. You can set this up using the Automations tool in Constant Contact.

How do I import existing contacts into Constant Contact?

Click Contacts β†’ Add Contacts. You can upload a spreadsheet (CSV or Excel), type names in manually, or sync contacts directly from tools like Google Contacts or Salesforce.
