The Formula for Small Business Success: Mindset, Customers, & Marketing

Many new and established businesses struggle with gaining visibility, building credibility, and effectively marketing their offerings. Without the right strategies and mindset, it's easy to get lost in the shuffle and miss out on the opportunities that lead to long-term success.

In this webinar, learn how to cultivate the right mindset for business success, identify your ideal clients, build a loyal customer base through referrals and visibility, and engage your audience by owning your list.

How do I genuinely connect with prospective customers on social media without sounding sales-y?

Building genuine connections with prospective customers on social media is all about authenticity and providing value. For example, act as a resource beyond simply promoting and selling your products/services. Are there larger discussions you can have with your audience or tips/tricks you can share?

How do I identify my ideal client?

The fact is, you can’t market to everyone. It’s a far better use of your time to reach out to those who mirror your business and would benefit the most from your services. In the webinar, we discussed creating a client avatar by defining these characteristics:

  • Demographic details like their age, income, and education

  • Character traits like their pain points, desires, fears, and what media they consume

By focusing on this target audience, it will make it more likely that you grow your business.

What does it mean to claim a page? How can I claim my business’ page?

Claiming a page means that you will gain control of the page, saying that you own the business. When a page is unclaimed, you will typically see a button that says "Claim this Business" or something similar, depending on the site. Then, you will need to follow the process to verify your site.

Does Google My Business cost money?

No, Google My Business and many other review sites are free. Some of them do offer upgraded features.

What do you mean by “owning” a list?

You have a “list” of contacts in your account. So this means you have a “list” of followers on your social channels, right? Yes, kind of. As we’ve seen countless times, social networks go down or go away (remember the TikTok ban?). If you lose access to a social account, you lose those followers and have no way to reach out to that audience. You own your contact list and have more control over it. This is why it's important to grow your contact list and encourage your social contacts to have additional connections with you.

What are the best ways for recognizing that you are in a negative financial loop, as well as ways to break it?

Great question!  There is a difference between having a hard cashflow period (usually as a result of poor sales, high unexpected costs, or struggles with delivery) and having the wrong business strategy.  Cashflow can and should be temporary, but the wrong financial model means that growth will make the financial issues worse, rather than better.  That is why SLAP is hyper-focused on making sure your financial model is sound - we want you to have the right income streams, with the right price point, the right variable expenses, and big enough profit margins that you can grow.   If you want to talk through your specific situation with one of our SLAP experts, they are great at helping with this exact problem and you are more than welcome to book a 30-minute call without cost.

Questions about SLAP

Can SLAP help a company take the steps to get to the next level? We've been in business for 20 years but seem "stuck”.

That is, quite literally, exactly what SLAP can help with. Most of our small businesses have been in business for many years and have incredible owners with a strong history but are struggling to get to the next level. We want to help! SLAP will create a strategy to push your business to the next level financially and then give you, the business owner, a ton of 1:1 support, ongoing optimization recommendations, and a peer community to connect and share with.

Does SLAP work with B2B?

Our 4 most common types of small businesses are creatives/makers (B2B and B2C),  coaches/consultants (B2B and B2C), professional services (mostly B2B), and online/physical Retail (mostly B2C), but all are welcome. We have businesses in almost every industry you can imagine, in 79 countries around the world!

Would I get 1-on-1 coaching?

Not only that, but you get unlimited 1:1 support. You talk to a SLAP expert in a 1:1 call at least once a month, but you can schedule as many calls as you want (literally!). Even better than that is that we have algorithms going through all of our data constantly looking for ways that our team can support you. If it sees that you might need support that you have not asked for, it will create a ticket for our team, and they will reach out to you to ask if you would like an additional 1:1 call so that they can support you even more.
