Collect additional fields using business card scanner on mobile app

TOTALLY AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I need to check the community page more often, I would have liked this every day since posted ; )  It is a nightmare to add a contact, and it's slow in responsiveness as well. When "Contact" is in the name of the biz...it should be the number one thing you can do well.  Modifying columns nightmares?  Yeah, that's for another thread : )

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your feedback regarding the mobile app's business card scanner! We completely understand that the entire purpose of a scanner is to save you time after a networking event, and having to manually type in job titles, company names, or physical addresses can be frustrating.

We want to clarify how this technology currently works based on our platform's design, and what our mobile team is exploring for the future.

As outlined in our official guide for the mobile app, the scanner uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to read the text on a physical card. Currently, the tool is strictly optimized to identify and automatically map the three most critical pieces of data for email marketing: First Name, Last Name, and Email Address.

Why did it only capture the email address? If you scanned a card and it only pulled the email, it is usually due to the card's design. If a business card is highly stylized, uses unique artistic fonts, or has a non-standard layout, the OCR software can struggle to confidently identify which block of text is a Name versus a Company Name. When it gets confused, it falls back to only capturing the email address (which is easily identifiable by the @ symbol) to ensure it doesn't accidentally put a company name into a "First Name" field!

Adding Additional Fields: While the scanner currently maps the basics, the app is designed to pause after a scan so you can review the data. This is the stage where you can tap in and manually add those additional details—like Job Title or Work Address—before officially saving the contact to your list.

Expanding the OCR capabilities to reliably identify and automatically map additional fields beyond Name and Email remains Under Consideration by our Mobile Development team.

We are keeping this thread open so we can continue to track the demand for expanded mobile scanner fields. Thank you for sharing your real-world experiences so we can continue to improve the app!
