If you would upgrade your system to just cut and paste from your Word doc, or Pages Doc into Constant Contact E Mail Campaign, instead of re-formatting the entire document word by word, I'm Not as concerned about the actual font but the margins look terrible unless you manually and laboriously enter in each word and split the screen to get margins look aligned on both sides . This is Very Basic and should not be an issue. I spent a long time with your customer service Rep who advised there was no way to keep the margins by cutting and pasting and that it would all have to be entered manually. Hard to believe that is still the case in this type of technology.
Copying and Pasting from Word does not bring over the correct styles
Hi everyone,
Thank you for sharing your workflows and feedback! We completely understand the frustration of drafting a beautifully formatted document in Microsoft Word or Google Docs, only to have the margins and indents shift when pasting it into your email campaign.
While we know having an exact 1-to-1 copy/paste experience would save time, allowing complex formatting from Word to carry over into the email editor is Not Currently Planned for a very specific technical reason: Mobile Responsiveness and Deliverability.
Programs like Microsoft Word use heavy, proprietary background code to create print-based formatting (like custom margins, tabs, and specific indentations). If that hidden code is pasted directly into an HTML email, it will severely break the mobile layout. The email will not resize correctly on a phone, and the messy background code can trigger spam filters in major inboxes like Outlook and Gmail.
To protect your email's layout and deliverability, our editor intentionally strips out complex background formatting when you paste.
The Best Practice Workflow: For the safest and most professional email design, we highly recommend separating your drafting process from your formatting process:
Paste as Plain Text: When copying from Word or Docs, always use
Ctrl + Shift + V(Windows) orCmd + Shift + V(Mac) to paste your text into Constant Contact. This strips away all hidden, problematic code.Format in the Editor: Use the native Constant Contact editor tools to apply your bolding, bullet points, and hyperlinks.
Use Spacers for Margins: Instead of using the "Tab" key or Word margins, use our native Padding settings or drag-and-drop Spacer blocks next to your text to create clean, mobile-responsive margins.
Because stripping proprietary word-processor formatting is an industry-standard best practice for responsive HTML email design, we are going to close this thread to keep our idea board actionable.
Thank you again for sharing your feedback and helping us ensure your campaigns always look great on any device!
