Meet Bret Sears, a Marketing Manager at Constant Contact for nearly five years, who thrives on blending creativity with strategy to help businesses stand out. Passionate about the entertainment and retail industries, he’s all about crafting unique brand voices, building strong online presences, and uncovering the right approach for each client. He loves seeing businesses succeed with the right strategy. Outside of work, he’s a musical artist—proving that creativity fuels everything he does. He is also working on his PhD in Management- Organizational Change and Behavior

What inspired you to pursue a career in marketing?

The perfect blend of creativity and strategy. I love thinking outside the box and crafting unique strategies to execute ideas in ways that stand out from the crowd.

How long have you been with Constant Contact?

Almost 5 years.

Are you inspired by a certain industry? If so why?

I’m inspired by the entertainment and retail industries. I’m passionate about building a strong online presence, connecting with audiences, and finding creative ways to give a brand a distinct, memorable voice.

What’s your favorite aspect of working in marketing?

My favorite part of working in marketing is discovering the right strategy for each business. No two strategies are the same—just as no two businesses are alike, even within the same industry. I love conducting research to identify the intended audience, understand what motivates them, and uncover their behaviors. Finding that perfect approach is what excites me the most!

How do you stay up to date with the latest marketing trends and developments?

To stay up to date on marketing trends, I follow numerous marketing blogs and industry experts like Neil Patel to stay informed on the latest trends. Keeping up with the ever-evolving world of marketing is essential, and I strive to be a trusted expert for my clients—because they rely on me to help their business thrive.

What’s the most rewarding part of your role as a Marketing Manager?

The most rewarding part of being a marketing manager is seeing my clients' excitement when we drive engagement, generate sales, or bring in tons of website traffic. Knowing they had the ingredients for success but just needed the right strategy to boost visibility and recognition—and seeing their happiness when it all comes together—makes my work truly fulfilling!

What unique skills or approaches do you bring to your customers?

I take an out-of-the-box approach, encouraging my clients to reflect on what’s working, what’s not, and how to stand out in their industry. While offering great products or services is essential, the real magic lies in uncovering what truly sets a brand apart—and that’s where I come in. I help clients find and amplify their unique edge, ensuring they stand out from the crowd.

What are your priorities when working with clients?

My priority is always the brand and business. Sometimes, that means sharing feedback or ideas that others might hesitate to express—but I believe honesty is key to a great partnership. My clients' success is my urgency, and when they thrive, so do I.

How do you define success in marketing?

Success in marketing is about giving a brand a voice that stands out. It’s not about being number one or the most popular—it’s about making a lasting impact on one person or a million. It’s not just about selling a product or service but about telling a compelling story—ensuring a brand’s longevity.

What’s your vision for the future of marketing at our company?

My goal for the future is to stay ahead of the curve—keeping up with emerging trends like AI and adapting to shifts in business direction. As tools evolve, so do challenges, and finding innovative solutions to navigate them is what makes this work so rewarding.

What’s your favorite success story from your work with the customers you work with?

I once created an email campaign for a client that led to a significant surge in sales. My client was ecstatic, and witnessing how marketing helped transform their small business—especially during a pandemic—was a gratifying experience. Nothing can take that joy away!

What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I’m a musical artist, so marketing is truly a part of my everyday life. Branding is essential, whether on stage or crafting a social media strategy for a client. Being able to channel my creativity in both worlds is what fuels my passion—it’s the spark that keeps me going!
