Email is one of the biggest levers nonprofits have to fix it. A well timed thank you, a story driven update, a segmented ask, all of it can meaningfully shift how many people come back for a second gift.
I support a local seeing eye dog placement group and they shared a stat that kind of threw me: the average nonprofit only retains 43% of donors year-over-year. Meaning if you had 1,000 donors last year, roughly 570 of them didn't give again.
So, curious to hear from the nonprofit folks in the community: what's actually working for you to keep donors giving year after year?
Cadence? A thank-you format? Monthly impact stories? Segmenting by giving level? Something nobody else talks about?
