Automations that actually work

We just paid extra for access to the new automations. They do not work. I have spent hours with Constant Contact reps, who never can explain -- or have differing explanations -- for why automations trigger or don't trigger even when the criteria for triggering are clear. Before adding anything new. Please make the current products work.

Hi @MiriamJ1. Looking back in your previous conversations, you had the trigger of contacts being added to a specific list. When you created the new automation as the chat support team suggested, did you create a brand new list and add contacts to that list? If contacts already existed on a list that is assigned to the automation, they will not receive the email and start the series.

Here's the whole story: The first automation triggered only sometimes, and the pattern was not clear. It was triggering for NEITHER entirely new addresses nor addresses that were already in other lists. But it WOULD trigger for random addresses, such as the one used by the tester. After about an hour of no useful information, I had to go into a meeting. Overnight, somebody added a one minute delay to the automation and also did something that made ALL the email addresses that had previously signed up get the automated email. Even though I had asked to be notified by email, I was not told what had been done or what I should do differently. Testing again the next morning, it was still erratic, and only then was I told to change the trigger. But it is not possible to change a trigger! So, I had to turn to help again, this time being told to deactivate the old automation and create a new one with a different trigger. That one didn't work at all for a while, so I reached out again. It was while on hold with that person that I wrote the message to which you have replied. Again, we tested with different email addresses and finally it started working, but it remains unclear why it was dormant for so long, why it continued to ignore some addresses, and why there was often a long delay between someone signing up and the automation being triggered. The rep says that it is working now, but I am going to build in some manual backup so that contacts who sign up when the automation is not responsive still get their information. All in all, what should have taken 15 minutes to set up if the instructions were clear and the automation was working as it should took several hours and we still cannot trust that it will work.
