I just wanted to add my voice to the chorus here. The lack of flexibility on the sign up form is shocking and we are in the process of looking for another provider to replace Constant Contact. What we're talking about here is the most basic of functionalities, something that I know VerticalResponse (for example) has had available for at least the last 4 years. There is no excuse for not fixing this unless your goal is to drive away every customer.
