when i look at the application and use that key in the tester it cannot be found, not recognized. what is going on?
Hello EdR,
Thank you for reaching out to Constant Contact API Developer Support. My team is here to assist outside software developers with questions about building into Constant Contact's API.
Based on your description, it sounds most likely that you are using the Legacy V2 API Mashery Portal Tester at https://constantcontact.mashery.com/io-docs
If this is the case, the Legacy V2 API Mashery Portal Tester also requires that you create an access token to use with the tester(in the yellow box at the top of that page).
V2 Mashery Key and Token Generation:
https://community.constantcontact.com/t5/Community-News/How-to-generate-an-API-Key-and-Access-Token/...
Alternately, The V3 API Developer portal at https://v3.developer.constantcontact.com/api_reference/index.html does not require an API key for testing, as it has one built in which you can access by clicking one of the the "OAuth" buttons.
Lastly, if you have generated a V3 API key through the Developer Portal, it will not be compatible with Mashery, as we have two different versions of our API, so the steps you take to generate an API key will depend on what version of our API the integration you are looking to connect with uses, as they are created through different platforms and are not cross compatible.
If you are still running into issues, could you please email us with the key you are trying to use, the URL of the tester you are trying to use it with, and the username of the Constant Contact account that you are trying to connect it with?
You can reach our team directly/securely via email at webservices@constantcontact.com and reference case #32549773.
Please have a look and let us know if you have any other questions!
