Check out our Set Up Your Community Profile article for additional insight for updating your profile, but to address your question directly a 'valid community screen name' would ideally be your FirstName_LastInitial (or full name if you're comfortable) or the name of your business/organization.
Did you try to update your Community screen name and received some kind of error?
