How to make rounded borders for split articles

Is there a way to edit the shape of split article borders? I started with a prebuilt template that had them rounded, but I had to delete the section because the background included orange shapes that were not editable.

Some pre-built templates will have specially coded elements that can't be recreated using the standard block and design formatting functionalities. Based on your description, you've encountered one of those, as there's nothing inherently in the system that allows for rounded versus straight edges on article layouts, at this time.
