Images inserted into image boxes should automatically resize to the size of the box placed within emails and landing pages.

Since the image placeholder block is a set dimension, and images will typically vary in dimensions outside of that, this wouldn't really be feasible. For example, longer, skinnier images wouldn't fit the dimensions of an image placeholder at all.
Luckily it's very easy to resize an image once it's added to a campaign, by simply dragging the corner out.
