Since the beginning of June, for many of our recipients who use gmail, our church emails have been going into a separate file labeled "Promotions" instead of going into their primary inbox. I think this has mostly to do with Google wanting to tidy up inboxes, but I wondered if there's something we can do to help keep our emails from being detected as a "promotion" and out of the sight of our recipients.

Hello @St.James.New.London ,
Unfortunately, this has been a regular occurrence for ESPs industry-wide with Gmail since the introduction of their promotions folders. While our developers are constantly working with email clients like Outlook, Yahoo, Google, etc. to ensure deliveries, this is something that gmail specifically does, that we've little control over.
The only workaround at the moment is to encourage your contacts to check their promotions folder and either flag your emails as okay in their regular inbox (by moving the email to the inbox tab), or encourage them to remove their promotions folder so these email types will default to the regular inbox.
For more information on the Promotions tab in Gmail, and how to get your contacts to mitigate it, I'd suggest checking this article.

hi - has there been any updates to this?
thank you
There's nothing to update, this is still the default functionality of Gmail if a recipient has Promotions as a separate Inbox tab active from the main one, and will likely remain as such.
Thanks for the effort and clear explanations!
