You can edit an automation step's header info (subject, preheader, etc.) while editing the rest of the email.
Our higher level technical team has been notified that some specific templates have issues, when copied from other series, being unable to have their headers edited. If this is your situation, we'd advise calling our general support for further assistance, so they can provide some live troubleshooting and help get the email step setup properly, as well as alert the Tier 2 team to which base template is causing the issue.
