Does the file you're trying to upload have multiple sheets? If so, are the contacts you're trying to upload on the first sheet? If that's already the case, then could you please send the XLS file in an email to social_support(at)constantcontact(dot)com, along with a reference to this community thread, so we can take a look at the file?
