I'm not sure I understand what the issue is? "Embedding" a link into your email is linking to it, via the text, button, or image methods made available. You typically need the full URL to link to an outside site, as that's the default functionality of linking things on the internet.

To change the inner fill color of a particular row, just hover over the block then select the gray gear button on the top-right corner of that row, then select the paint bucket. To set your default inner background color, you can find options in the Design tab of the lefthand menu.
