I have had an account for years. I tried to sign in, but I quess I was signing up for a new account. Now I cannot create anything without buying a new account with the same name and password? Help!

No two account can have the exact same username, let alone the same username-password combo. Therefore, your original account that you've had for years most definitely uses a different username from the trial you made.
When I searched for the email address you used as a username for the trial, I found another account that's active. Please remember that email addresses are not necessarily usernames. If you're unable to remember your paid account's username, I'd advise going through the Forgot Username process on the login page, or calling our general support so they can securely discuss and share this information with you.
