Automation Campaign Reporting - Delayed?

Is anyone else having difficulty measuring the success of their automation campaigns? My team set up a campaign that is triggered by a new contact being added to a list. We tested on our team members and found that even though 3 people were added to the list, the number of "started" was showing as 1. We also have a campaign that is currently running with the same trigger that shows the number of sends is "3,625" while the number started is "2441." Shouldn't the sends be lower than the number started? Any feedback is appreciated. Thank you!
