I am trying to add one name at a time and get sent in circles unable to do one, then another, then another. Drudge work, but necessary....

Are you asking for assistance with something, or are you just stating what you're doing for managing your contacts? If it's tedious adding the contacts to lists one-by-one, have you tried using an alternative import method like adding by file or by typing/pasting multiple?
