I recommend looking at Quickstart Guides on Nonprofits  has tons of helpful info for getting a nonprofit up and running. I'm not totally sure about all the biz and tax docs needed, but here are some key things to do:

  1. Figure Out Your Cause: what's the point of your nonprofit? What problem do you want to help solve in your community?
  2. Do Some Digging: look into the demand for your nonprofit's services or causes. Make a solid plan with your goals, tactics, and budget.
  3. Name Your Nonprofit: Choose a name that reflects your mission and is unique and available for registration in your state or country.
  4. Locate the necessary documentation to incorporate, and apply for tax-exemption status.
