What does a company newsletter need to have in it? What should a company newsletter look like?

A good newsletter inspires customers to trust your company and aims to keep your customers engaged. Your newsletter can include educational content, news about the industry your company operates within, updates about your company, and any other fun or informative topics that position you as a leader in your field. Our Use Email Newsletters to Engage with Your Audience post goes over the building blocks of a successful newsletter, in great detail.

Try to avoid making products and sales the focus, and instead try to provide value. That said, it’s totally okay to briefly mention solutions your company offers where it applies, or reference your website to encourage customers to visit.

Here are some examples of topics you could include.

Industry News:

  • New technological advancements that might affect your industry
  • Major acquisitions or mergers of companies within the industry
  • New laws or regulations that affect your industry, your products, or your customers

Educational Content:

  • A tutorial on how to use one of your most complex products
  • Insightful comments from a thought leader relevant to your business
  • Content that brings awareness to a cause that's important to you or your company's mission

Company Updates:

  • The launch of a new product line
  • Discontinuing a product line
  • A fun event that your company is throwing or sponsoring

It's such a good point to focus on the value! Everyone has a product, but as a consumer, I want to know that you understand my pain point and show me how your product solves my problem.

Segmentation is a great tool for your newsletter too because your audience might have different interpretations in what they find valuable. If you break them into groups with shared needs, you can further target your message to make it even more meaningful for each segment. You may end up writing several versions of your newsletter, but they'll be shorter because you can leave out unwanted content.

@VanessaM7330 and @Elizabeth_K you make excellent points!

When we develop custom-designed templates for our email clients, we typically set up the template with these 3 main sections:

  • Header - fully branded to match the client's website, and includes the website navigation bar to make it easy for readers to reach different parts of the website.
  • Body - several types of blocks to accommodate different content. From text, to images, PDFs, coupons, promotions, videos, galleries, CTA buttons - it's all in there, so depending on the goal of the email and the content used, anything can be included
  • Signature - includes information about the sender, ideally with their picture, so the email feels like it's coming from a real person. Include all their contact information, social media links, call schedule link and anything specific to that client.
