send email to event registrants

I would like to use my invitation email as a template for my reminder email, however it appears that I need to start from scratch creating a reminder email.

This is already possible within events. Click the large button for creating an email within your event, select Copy an existing email, then select the email invite you want to copy. Give it a name, then select whether this is going to registrants, non-responders, or others.
