how to reinstate a deleted contact

I deleted contacts who are no longer members of our nonprofit organization.  However, I have discovered that some of the contacts have rejoined.  When I re-enter their contact information, it tells me the contact exists but does not allow me to save the new information.

Try adding the contacts via either the paste/type multiple or file upload methods.
