Hey everyone!
We’ve recently rolled out a new version of our contact management dashboard to a number of customers. With any change, there can be an adjustment period to get used to a new look. We wanted to make a post that contains answers to some common questions. We’ve received some great feedback on the changes so far, and encourage you to continue providing feedback so that we can make it even better. Here are some resources to help get you started!
Overviews
New Contacts overview (article) - This article includes some side by side screenshots between the previous contacts page and the new design to help you find some common actions you’re used to doing.
New contacts overview (video) - If you learn better by watching a video, this video is just over 3 minutes long and will walk you through the Contacts redesign.
Common Questions
How do I add contacts now? The ‘Add Contacts’ button is still available as long as you are under the Contacts view. If you normally upload contacts from a spreadsheet you can find full instructions in this article.
If you normally add contacts through an integration (such as Gmail or Outlook) you can follow the same steps, but choose Integration after clicking on Add Contacts. The import options used to be listed under a drop down under Add Contacts. This was changed to give consistency to the primary action buttons throughout the product.
Where do I find Unsubscribed contacts (and other contact statuses): Unsubscribed contacts can be filtered for in the contacts view. This article will provide instructions, as well as explanations for each status.
(UPDATED) How do I find/add “notes” to contacts? Notes have been added in the new Contacts dashboard! Check the Add or view notes subsection under the Managing Contacts section of the overview. If you're not seeing your notes from the previous iteration of the dashboard, you can also still export those notes by exporting contacts, then copy-paste into the new notes setup as needed.
Can I resubscribe a contact? Yes, if you send the unsubscribed contact a link to one of your sign up forms, they can resubscribe through the form. If they’re unable to get signed back up through a sign up form, you can request our Review team do a manual override of the unsubscription. You’ll need to get an email directly from the contact explicitly stating they want to be resubscribed. Then you’ll need to call into the Review team, and follow their processes from there. Since there are a number of legal and Compliance-related elements to unsubscribing and resubscribing, we have to make sure one of these two processes is followed.
I love the new contacts management dashboard! So thank you for upgrading... however, previously, it would not allow me to choose "Work" for phone or physical address, they all went to HOME...so 95% of all my contacts were entered with home addresses and phone numbers - which I do not need - I only want work addresses and phone numbers (and/or cell). I contacted support a few years ago regarding this, and they didn't really care, and told me I shouldn't either (?) Now, this upgrade allows me to actually choose home, work, - and it works perfectly. How can I change all my previous contacts from "Home" addresses and phone numbers to "Work"?
Hi @MichelleB637 ,
Are all your contacts' addresses and phone numbers now showing up as home addresses and home phones only? If so, the best method would likely be exporting the affected contacts, then reuploading that exported list. During upload, you can change the column for Home Addresses and Home Phone Numbers to their Work variants.
With that said, it may be worth editing the CSV file prior to upload for additional clarity / to avoid having the work and home addresses and phone numbers be the same in the CRM. To do this, I'd recommend copying / shifting over the home columns over to their respective work columns. Then, simply add n/a or blank to the home cells. This way when you reupload the exported CSV, it'll overwrite what's in our system for home, and only display the work address. The reason I mention this is that our system won't overwrite contact details if a field column is simply blank or missing.
@William_D - Thank you! I was thinking exporting, re-upload...but I'm glad you provided additional information to do that!
Before Constant Contact updated the contact area of this service you were able to open a contact and see all the emails they received, what they opened and what they did not, what bounced etc... where is this information now??? When I open a contact I just see contact entry information. Nothing regarding their interaction with the emails i have sent.
I'm missing the information about which emails the contacts have received, what they have opened, what they have not, what bounced etc... where did that go???
Hello @blackinton , you can still access a contact's engagement reporting by clicking on the contact, and then selecting the engagement tab in the sub-window.
Yes thanks after I sent question I found engagement tab!
Hello! My business depends on the notes I make on each contact. This feature has disappeared and I really need access to my customer notes. Can anyone tell me where the notes have gone and why they're no longer visible? Thanks, Stephanie Rogers
Hello @StephanieR20 ,
Existing notes on contacts can be found by exporting contacts. You can also re-import them into a custom field for the time-being, if needed. While it is not a feature available at this time, you can vote for the idea or leave a comment on our Feedback boards.
Hi William D, re-importin all the notes for our 700+ customers would take way too much time. I've spent so many hours and years refining this information. It's very, very important to our business. Can you please make this easier and re-instate this feature? It's one of the reasons why I've stayed with Constant Contact for so many years! Also, exporting the info really does me no good, as I cannot update. I use this feature weekly and really need it back. Thanks, Steph
Hello @StephanieR20 ,
In regards to this current workaround, you can easily export all of your contacts then reimport all of them to update them all with a custom field of "notes." Additionally, once you've re-imported the custom field, you're free to edit on a case-by-case basis as needed, just like with other contact fields.
Hello @StephanieR20 ,
Just wanted to update you that Notes are now available in the new dashboard! Check the Add or view notes subsection under the Managing Contacts section of the overview. If you're not seeing your notes from the previous iteration of the dashboard, you can also still export those notes by exporting contacts, then copy-paste into the new notes setup as needed.
Hello @LindaB3655 ,
If you need to view all your Active contacts, click on Contacts in the top navigation bar, then select the contacts sub-tab, and then click the dropdown menu that says "All Contacts" and select "All Subscribed."

Hi support,
How do I re-subscribe previously unsubcribed contact? I don't see the option to "resubscribe" in the newly updated site. Hope you can help.
Thank you,
April
Hello @MarilagM3 ,
The easiest method for a contact to resubscribe to you, would be through one of your sign up forms.
If they’re unable to get signed back up through a sign up form, you can request our Review team do a manual override of the unsubscription. Hello,
I'm trying to do simple email edit of and existing contact with the "updated" system. When I enter the new information I keep getting this message: "Please review the fields below and correct any issues". However, nothing is highlighted as needing correction. Also, the only fields I use (over the last 3 years) are the first and last name and email address.
Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas?
