Sending an email to a partial number of users on a list ?

I have a list of contacts that are spread out geographically.  I want to invite some of them to a local "lunch and learn", but it's not practical to send the email to the entire list, as about 50% of those users are not local.  is there a way to pick certain users from my contacts list and send the invite to JUST those contacts ??
